Spiderman Spiderman...does whatever a spider can
One of the things I think works really well for kids birthday parties...especially the ones that are not at home, are to make a cake with matching cupcakes. That way, all the kids have something easy to eat, but you still have a cake to do the candles with and maybe take home for the family party later.
So this week it is Spiderman. I started out earlier in the week making the add-ons for the cupcakes. If you do all this before hand, then you can make the actual cake as close to the party as possible. Assembly only takes a minute!
I started by rolling out the fondant and getting all my icing, made before hand.
I made eight little spider legs and the head with black icing. Then took a black M & M for the body. It gives it a little dimension which looks nice.
Once they are all made, you can set them aside until you are ready to put them on the cupcakes.

Red Velvet Lollypops...umm yes please!
So I totally got this idea from the Bakerella blog. http://bakerella.blogspot.com/
They are Red Velvet Cake lolly pops. First let's just say that they are the cutest things in the whole world, ridiculously rich, and on a stick! What's not to love.
As you can see the inside is Red Velvet Cake. But it's more than that:) It's the cake mixed with cream cheese frosting. Then you put it on the stick, and dip it in chocolate...and sprinkles just make everything better!!
These are some that I am making for a friend to use at a bridal shower. The brides colors are champagne and silver. I thought they turned out very nicely
These are some left overs that I put colorful sprinkles to give to some friends in the neighborhood. (That's right ladies...goodies are on the way)
No matter what you put on them, they are cute...but be advised, it does take a certain amount of practice to make them. And if you look on the Bakerella site, you will see that I still have a LONG way to go:)

Pretty in Pink
Sometimes you just need something small and simple. This time it was for my good friend Ger-Bear:) A little cake to celebrate her birthday at the 4h of July party. So I started with a two layer 6 inch cake. 1/2 chocolate and 1/2 vanilla. I filled in between the layers with vanilla butter cream.
I iced the whole thing in chocolate icing, and ran a cake comb around the side to give it a nice finished look.
Then I piped on a hot pink border and the top by using a star tip and just going around in circles til I filled the whole thing. I threw some little pearlized candy pieces on top (because they're cute). And that was that.
Let Freedom Ring
Some quick 4th of July cupcakes that are super easy. I made your standard choc. and vanilla cupcakes. Then I mixed some red and blue icing and put it in a piping bag. After the cupcakes had cooled, I poked the tip of the piping bag into the cupcake on top and squeezed a little in. Then frosted the top white, threw on some sprinkles and decorative toothpicks! Viola patriotic cupcakes!
